Before Deleting: We strongly recommend exporting your data first. The IRS recommends keeping tax records for 3-7 years. Once deleted, your data cannot be recovered.

6. Data Retention
6.1 Active Accounts
While your account is active and your subscription is current:
- All user-generated content and data is retained indefinitely
- Account information and settings are maintained
- Usage logs retained for 90 days, then anonymized
- Data is backed up regularly for disaster recovery
6.2 After Subscription Cancellation
Important Retention Policy:
When you cancel your subscription (but don't delete your account):
- Day 0-90: Your data is fully retained and accessible
- Day 60: Email reminder sent: "30 days until automatic deletion"
- Day 85: Final email reminder: "5 days until automatic deletion"
- Day 90: All data is permanently and automatically deleted
- You can reactivate your subscription within 90 days to restore full access
- You can export your data at any time during the 90-day period
6.3 Immediate Deletion Requests
If you request immediate account deletion:
- Day 0: Account access is immediately disabled
- Days 1-30: Data is marked for deletion but retained in backups
- Day 30: Data is permanently deleted from all systems
- Day 30: You receive email confirmation of deletion
6.4 Legal and Compliance Retention
Certain data may be retained longer if required by law:
- Payment records: Retained for 7 years (tax compliance)
- Legal disputes: Retained until resolution
- Fraud prevention: Retained as needed for investigation
- This data is isolated and not accessible via the application

System backups may persist for up to 90 days after deletion, but:
- Backups are not accessible or searchable
